TEATRO - Objectives for young people and the Mediterranean
Theatrical section of the Venice Biennial
Young people and the Mediterranean: these are the pole stars that will guide Maurizio Scaparro (foto) for the next two years of his direction of the Theatrical section of the Venice Biennial. Theatre critic, director and organiser, Scaparro, aged 75 from Rome, is lucky enough not to feel, or be considered, a stranger in Venice.
The Mediterranean, and then young people, following the interesting experience of the campus that attracted a thousand young people to Venice last year: «An experience that must be repeated. Presidente Baratta has asked me to divide my project this year into two organically linked parts, the campus and an international laboratory of specialisation, that share contents and languages from all the shores of the Mediterranean, and then the real festival itself, that could be linked up with the next Carnical festivities».
Love Difference
Artistic Movement for an Inter-Mediterranean Policy
This movement was created by the Political Office of Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto in Biella in the spring of 2002. Its aim was to group together people and institutions present in the regions facing onto the Mediterranean Sea who were interested in creating new perspectives capable of prevailing over the tragic conflicts between different cultures. A creative laboratory of socially committed art. Art, the primary expression of creativity, thus assumes a social responsibility and becomes a compass indicating the direction towards which the outlook of the new civilisation on a planetary level should be aimed. The Mediterranean gave birth to the differences that originate from a great many cultures that, in their turn, are a different expressions of common roots; in the past it was a laboratory of diversity between peoples, ethnic groups, religions, arts and trade. The Mediterranean is a sea that reflects the history of most of humanity, but it also reflects the future, because the society that will be living around its coasts tomorrow will set the standards for civilisation on a world-wide scale.
