13th Med Film Festival

Rome from November 8th to 18th

Each film tells us about the infinite variety of identities and societies, a priceless heritage and precious resource for our future. Inspired by a love of this subject and convinced that Diversity is a Value, the Med Film Festival first opened in 1995 for the Centenary of the Cinema and the Declaration of Barcelona. Recognised by over 40 Countries, the Ministry of Cultural Assets and Activities considers Med Film a Festival of National Interest, while the City Council of Rome deems it a Historic Event. The Med Film Festival has always aimed to guarantee screenings for Mediterranean and European films of quality. Every year in Rome it hosts films and guests from the southern coasts of the Mediterranean, ranging as far as the Middle East and Europe, in order to explore different cultures through the marvels of the cinema. A large number of international guests appear to present their films, offering the public a direct testimonial of their work and a different approach towards the Cinema, seen as a source of knowledge and wonder, rather like opening a window onto another world that is often unknown and can allow us to question our identity in a privileged way.

29th Edition of the Festival of the Cinema and Women

Florence from November 6th to 11th

The 29th Edition of the International Festival of the Cinema and Women will be held from November 6th to 11th as part of the huge programme reserved for Florentine festivals and promoted by the Region of Tuscany and the Mediateca Regionale. The subject chosen this year by the organisers is the future of memory and many qualified film directors, almost all of them from the Mediterranean area, have been invited to present work centred on this theme. The Festival in fact includes films and documentaries from the Palestine, Israel, Iran, Algeria, France and Italy, together with a prestigious retrospective dedicated to Alida Valli. The 10th edition of the 2007 “Seal of Peace Award” will be presented for the opening of the Festival in Palazzo Vecchio on November 6th. Winners for 2007 are Djamila Sahraoui, from Algeria, for her film "Barakat", and Liana Badr, from the Palestine, for her documentary film "La porta aperta, per ora". The first film reconstructs the life histories of a young woman doctor and a nurse, both working in a hospital in Algeria, a forty year history of this tormented country. Liana Badr, the author and director of the documentary Ramallah, offers an eye-witness story of the difficult and complex way of life in the Palestine.

27th edition of the International Festival of Mediterranean Films

Montpellier, from October 26th to November 4th

For a week Montpellier becomes the capital of Mediterranean films: this small French town will in fact host the 27th edition of the International Festival of Mediterranean Films from October 26th to November 4th, with 251 films from 21 countries in the Mediterranean, from Portugal to the Black Sea. 125 of the films competing in the official selection have never been shown before. One of the highpoints in this edition is the concert by the Spanish actress Victoria Abril who, to the notes of the Bossa Nova, will conclude her French tournee on October 23rd. The rich programme includes some outstanding free events: a look at Spain with "Women behind the camera", a panorama of Spanish cinema seen through the eyes of women; while "Cinecittà-Hollywood", covering the reciprocal influences between Italian and American cinema, and tributes to Vittorio De Seta and Lucio Fulcimentre, are dedicated to Italian film-making.

“The history of films for Equal Opportunities”

International Film Festival in Rome

A different picture of women and personal respect, starting with children. This is the leading message for the second edition of the Rome Film Festival, thanks to “The history of films for Equal Opportunities”, the three-year project that comes from an agreement between the department for the Rights and Equal Opportunities and the Rome Film Foundation. The 21 films on the programme, in the Pre'mie're, Cinema 2007, Extra and Alice nella City sections, cover subjects of social rights and equal opportunities; three films will be selected from among them and recorded on the Dvd that will later be distributed in the schools in Rome and province, "but we would like to extend the project to the rest of Italy and take it to a European level", says Barbara Pollastrini, Minister for Rights and Equal Opportunities'.
