MEDITERRANEAN
by Pierfranco Bruni
A study on the theme of roots, nostalgia, dreams and travel. An analysis of the links between Italian literature and Mediterranean cultural roots, singling out the connections between myths, memories, languages and literature. Pierfranco Bruni covers these subjects in his book entitled ''Mediterranean. Paths of civilisation in 20th century literature", published by the "Francesco Grisi" Strudy and Research Centre and sponsored by the Ministry of Cultural Assets.
In his book the author examines Italian writers who have studied the Mediterranean civilisation, a civilisation linked to the roots, sentiments of memory and popular culture as well as to the importance of belonging, the concept of the sea and landscape.
"The Mediterranean and literature. This is not just a historic and political report - explains Bruni - but above all an aesthetic and literary text. We live in the Mediterranean amid the traces of the destines of peoples of the past who have transmitted the importance of tradition to us. The 'Mediterranean culture'' envisages this heritage as the past that continues to live between the sea and the desert, between the destiny of Greece and the destiny of Rome in a sort of Biblical dimension".

A Mediterranean Sea of conflicts. The history of a missing dialogue
Rizzi Franco, Ed. Meltemi.
The political, economic and social relations between the countries around the Mediterranean have always played an important part in maintaining a stable international balance. Although the European Union has always kept up close relations with the countries on the southern shores of the Mediterranean ever since its foundation, it did not start to enlarge its field of reference until after the Declaration of Barcelona. This book has been written for people who want to find out more about some of the fundamental moments in the EU's Mediterranean policies. The author in fact reconstructs all the stages in this history: the Mediterranean global policies, the enlargement of the Community and Mediterranean polical programmes, the birth of a Euro-Mediterranean partnership and the EU's policies regarding the process for peace in the Middle East.
